I created this 12 second video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGVGQtW0pfw) that shows that custom shapes can be integrated in Mandelbrot like fractals. The concept is quite simple. You define a custom shape/picture/video in the 2D or 3D space outside the fractal and whenever a point escapes through that shape you treat it as if it belongs to the set. As far as I now this has never been done in 3D but that would be very cool. Note like in the video the shape does not have to be static. I am not really proficient when it comes to 3D and C++ but I would love to demonstrate this in 3D using Mandelbulber. I would think that a simple shape like a sphere would perhaps require only a few extra lines of code at the point of testing for the escape condition. Keen to know if this raises interest or if this is blasphemy.
