Heh, that you express it as non-trivial tells me it might not be worth it.

Now THERE'S an understatement.

Meanwhile I'm investigating use of imapsync.  It appears to have options for 
deleting and/or expunging during the process.  But for regular syncing it 
looks like maiutil is a better choice.  Nice to have the abundance of 
choices though!
