What I can easily do is a `make dist` on the CVS checkout and either send to it via email or put on the download somewhere. That should work around autotools problems. Just whistle. Love, H |

I hope this command line will be sufficient. mailsync -v -n -ds -d -cd -f generic.store generic.move as for digging into the code, I can go into it as a tourist and if it's a small change I can probably make it. But since I nuked my hands about ten years ago, and have been using speech recognition ever since, I've generally don't write code in C/C++. I am pretty much limited to Python as that is one of the few languages that works well with speech recognition (assuming a minimum of StUDlYcApS). I do need to finish this project up as my customer is getting somewhat cranky. with any luck, I will be able to synchronize most of users because they have flat name spaces. as for the rest, I will probably just rsync over the mailboxes and synchronize from files to IMAP server. I can't run on the old mailbox server (rh 7.2) because I can't build mailsync there courtesy auto<mumble> problems. --- eric |

When I've tried this kind of thing before, I've ended up in Dependancy Hell. (it's not practical to upgrade half of the system on dialup!) It looks like this is something to put on hold for the moment. Mandrake are stopping support for 9.1 in a few months, at which point I'm planning on upgrading to 10.1 if it's out by then. This will bring me up to date on libraries, and I'll try mailsync again then. Thanks for your help anyway, hopefully I'll have a success story for you in a few months time. -- "People don't ask for facts in making up their minds. Troubles compiling with gcc 3.4.0 seem to be related to gcc, not mailsync. Here is the troublesome line: /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.0/../../../../include/c++/3.4.0/bits/stl_bvector.h:522: error: `Max' is not a member of `std' const size_type __len = size() + std::max(size(), __n); And here is the root of all evil: /usr/include/c-client/misc.h:#define max Max I have no clue if #undef after c-client.h would break it or not. My guess is not, because `grep 'max[[:space:]]*(' /usr/include/c-client/ -r` output: /usr/include/c-client/mh.c: if (LOCAL->cachedtexts > max (stream->nmsgs * 4096,2097152)) { /usr/include/c-client/mx.c: if (LOCAL->cachedtexts > max (stream->nmsgs * 4096,2097152)) { /usr/include/c-client/mbx.c: stream->uid_last = stream->rdonly ? max (i,stream->uid_last) : i; /usr/include/c-client/tcp_unix.c: int maxfd = max (20,max (max(pipei[0],pipei[1]),max(pipeo[0],pipeo[1]))); /usr/include/c-client/tcp_unix.c: i = select (max (stream->tcpsi,stream->tcpso)+1,&fds,0,&efds,&tmo); /usr/include/c-client/env_unix.c: for (j = max (20,max (max (pi[0],pi[1]),max(po[0],po[1]))); /usr/include/c-client/misc.c:long max (long i,long j) /usr/include/c-client/misc.h:long max (long i,long j); Doesn't look as if it's used in #defines. Although, if the patch attached work (if I don't forget to attach it, that is), then, I think the complaint should go to c-client instead, as this #undef would be more suitable in c-client headers instead. And, while we're at it... I just wondered why vector and not list? The latter should be a bit more efficient when filling in initially and this is mostly how mailsync works with these vectors. Another thing, which is, I believe, not related to gcc, but anyway... I don't know since when, but I had to env LIBS=-lcrypt ./configure to make thing compile... Is it only me? Love, H |

May I > suggest that the simulation phase should also read the entire e-mail > source mailbox? What do you mean by "should read the entire e-mail source mailbox"? Simulate does exactly what the actual act would do _except_ for actually /putting/ the email in the other mail store. It *does* read all the messages it would copy in their entirety. And it does read all the messages in both boxes for their respective mail-ids - you can find the relevant copying code in the file channel.cc. "bool Channel::copy_message" does the copying of a message itself. But what I can see above looks pretty screwed. First apparently c-client tries to read a mail folder's first internal message, where the c-client library stores mail mbx state - mind you, that mailsync _will not_ see that message. It's strange, that this doesn't happen until you really do sync When did that happen, at the end of the whole sync process or at the end of syncing /one/ box? One difference between the simulation process and the real thing is that the real thing will expunge duplicates. Possibly it's just that what happened and then c-client broke because the mentioned internal message with its state was broken? ??? The next problem: > Error: IMAP protocol error: Command unrecognized: EXPUNGE > Error: Command unrecognized: EXPUNGE should definitively not happen at all. I wonder whether that's the cause of the previous error bringing c-client out of step, which would be a quite annoying bug in c-client (IMO). In which case the certain MC that you mention below would certainly be happy to hear from you to fix the c-client library. > by the way, this is all the fault of a certain MC refuses to document > completely the mbx mailbox and build good tools for recovery after the > inevitable corruption. Uhm well, I know the whole product suite is unfortunately not developed in a "true" open source way (and license for that matter), which is IMO a pitty. OTOH nothing prevents anybody from actually using the source Luke and documenting the stuff or building tools to do recovery... And MC is very responsive too - it *is* possible to talk to him (through the c-client ML f.ex.). > That's my major reason for migrating to maildir. > Bernstein may be even less fun to have at parties but at least he > documents what he does extremely well. Mind you that c-client does not officially support the maildir format and unfortunately last I've heard nobody was maintaining the patch for that format. It is documented there but only once you read enough tea leaves, gaze into crystal balls, and and drape the office walls with goat entrails. I must say. It is not unlike recognizing constellations. Once you already know the answer, the shape is obvious. However, before you know the answer, it is just a bunch of points. answer: at the end of the server name, place /notls. What is particularly confusing in the documentation is that they say place the /option after a mailbox definition. For example: store esj.original { server {10.51.64.44/user=esj/notls} ref {10.51.64.44} <<<=== where is this documented? pat * passwd <noseeme> } gives me: mail syncconfig # mailsync -v -di -f esj.store esj.original Listing store "esj.original" [Trying IP address [10.51.64.44]] * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 LOGIN-REFERRALS STARTTLS AUTH=LOGIN] Hapco.ny.hapcofarms.com IMAP4rev1 2001.315rh at Mon, 10 May 2004 15:20:32 -0400 (EDT) 00000000 AUTHENTICATE LOGIN + VXNlciBOYW1lAA== Authorizing against {mail.andrewandsons.com/imap} <suppressed> + UGFzc3dvcmQA <suppressed> 00000000 OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4REV1 IDLE NAMESPACE MAILBOX-REFERRALS SCAN SORT THREAD=REFERENCES THREAD=ORDEREDSUBJECT MULTIAPPEND] User esj authenticated 00000001 LIST "" * * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" mail-food * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" sent-mail * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" katfood * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" saved-messages * LIST (\NoSelect) "/" mail * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" dummybox * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" dummybox.preserve * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" clean1 * LIST (\NoInferiors \Marked) "/" fixbox * LIST (\NoInferiors \UnMarked) "/" spambox * LIST (\NoInferiors) NIL INBOX 00000001 OK LIST completed dummybox.preserve saved-messages mail-food sent-mail dummybox katfood spambox clean1 fixbox INBOX mail which is close enough to reality that I am happy enough to continue on to the next stage... actually moving messages. |
