Hey Bogdan :-) Here is a good initial task you can start with. I suggest u to work on this, coz its a relatively selfintegrated task. Please respond if u will grap it (work on it) or not. The project uses the class MimeType from the jaf package. http://java.sun.com/products/javabeans/glasgow/javadocs/index.html It is the only class used in the jaf libary. I would like to replace this with our own class, for several reasons - 1. I am not sure if license of jaf conflicts with the gpl. 2. The implementation of mimetype in jaf throws exception in some cases of badly formatted mimetypes, though, they are understandable, and can/should be parsed and used in the app. 3. No need to use a whole external libary for just one class. You dont need to make the class exactly the same as the MimeType in jaf, but the method signatures gives a good idea of what is needed. Actually, u dont need to do the class all over if u can find some existing code (under gpl). For a describtion of mimetypes - ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc2045.txt ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc2046.txt Every mail has (or most) a mimetype (the contenttype header field), which describes the content and is used to decide how to display the mail. This is how it is used within the mailsomething project. The gui code uses it to show a mail either as plain text, html, as a picture, with attachments, etc. etc. You can try use an ide to find all references to the java.activation.MimeType class and then u get an idea how its used. I have myself started to use junit tests for the code I write. I will suggest the mailsomething project does that too, anyway... we can talk about that when u have some progress with the class.... Or I can write some junit tests for that specific class u can test with. Hope u will find it interesting. Let me hear what u think.
