Hello,

the AddOn seems not to work on Thunderbird 78.0.1 on MacOS. I just tested it with the latest version from sourceforge. There is no button for the redirect and not entry in the menu.

Best regards
Kay

In Thunderbird 78.0 support for xul overlay extensions like Mail Redirect has been dropped. Because there was much insecurity about the only way I could convert it to a Webextension Experiment and that would require a complete rewrite, I haven't started with that task. I hope to start with that after the holidays and try to be in time for people getting auto updated to 78.2 or something in two or three months.

    Hi Onno,

I do not know if you have seen it: I have created a shortcut update guide, to get legacy extensions working in TB78 again, with the minimal amount of work possible. It is using an Experiment wrapper API:
    https://github.com/thundernest/addon-developer-support/wiki

After the initial update, we can remove the legacy parts step by step. The idea is to get add-ons compatible as easy and as fast as possible and do the "full" conversion to a true MailExtension without Experiment APIs in smaller steps, while your users can already use your add-on in TB78.

I would love to see your add-on in TB78 and I offer help via our community channels:
    https://developer.thunderbird.net/add-ons/community

    Thank you for your contributions,
    John

      Hi John,
I'll see if I can get it to work with the wrapper as an interim solution, but I have my doubts, as Mail Redirect heavily depends on XUL-features, which have been removed or changed in Thunderbird 78. For instance I create a XUL-window to redirect messages, which was a "fork" of messengercompose.xul, but that has changed into messengercompose.xhtml...

All XUL files have been renamed to XHTML but it's the same file, same syntax. The are only a few actual changes in terms of unsupported features.

    Hi @oeekker,
    I appreciate your work here!
Having the ability to bounce email is important from time to time, so I am wondering if you have any plans when you can get work done.
I believe I understand from John that it would be possible to keep the old plugin working using the experimental wrapper APIs, though that's not a long-term solution.
However, if this buys us another 6months, that would be worth it, I believe.
@John: do I need to start building code myself to get this working or do you have an experimental mailredirect packaged with the thundernest stuff somewhere?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
sorry for my question, but is there an approximate date available when I can checkout an first beta for the redirect function?

I'm sorry, but I can't predict how much longer it will take to get a version that redirects working. Much if the compose window internals have changed and I try to re-implement the things that are gone, because i think that's easiest for now. Maybe the next version will use the addressing widget layout of Thunderbird 78, but that's probably harder to implement.

    Hello,

since there are multiple critical security issues with Thunderbird 68.x I looked up for more information regarding the status and so I found this thread.
I imagine that I'm not the person anxious for more information. So I think It would be great to frequently get updates on the advances the migration of the add-on is making on the projects website.

Thanks a lot for your efforts.
