Hello, since there are multiple critical security issues with Thunderbird 68.x I looked up for more information regarding the status and so I found this thread. I imagine that I'm not the person anxious for more information. So I think It would be great to frequently get updates on the advances the migration of the add-on is making on the projects website. Thanks a lot for your efforts.

I'm sorry, but I can't predict how much longer it will take to get a version that redirects working. Much if the compose window internals have changed and I try to re-implement the things that are gone, because i think that's easiest for now. Maybe the next version will use the addressing widget layout of Thunderbird 78, but that's probably harder to implement.

Hi @oeekker, I appreciate your work here! Having the ability to bounce email is important from time to time, so I am wondering if you have any plans when you can get work done. I believe I understand from John that it would be possible to keep the old plugin working using the experimental wrapper APIs, though that's not a long-term solution. However, if this buys us another 6months, that would be worth it, I believe. @John: do I need to start building code myself to get this working or do you have...

Hi Onno, I do not know if you have seen it: I have created a shortcut update guide, to get legacy extensions working in TB78 again, with the minimal amount of work possible. It is using an Experiment wrapper API: https://github.com/thundernest/addon-developer-support/wiki After the initial update, we can remove the legacy parts step by step. The idea is to get add-ons compatible as easy and as fast as possible and do the "full" conversion to a true MailExtension without Experiment APIs in smaller...

  • Onno Ekker Onno Ekker posted a comment on ticket #28

In Thunderbird 78.0 support for xul overlay extensions like Mail Redirect has been dropped. Because there was much insecurity about the only way I could convert it to a Webextension Experiment and that would require a complete rewrite, I haven't started with that task. I hope to start with that after the holidays and try to be in time for people getting auto updated to 78.2 or something in two or three months.

toolbar.customization.usesheet is set to false - but: I checked behaviour again, also playing around with other extensions, and have to admit: there seems to be a general issue with Thunderbird's main toolbar, not explicitly with Mail Redirect. So I interpreted the error mesage in a wrong way, and fixing it will not solve my toolbar issues. But be aware that your attempt to copy the icon to the installation directy will not work in Windows 10, for you need admin rights to write data in sub folders...

  • Onno Ekker Onno Ekker posted a comment on ticket #25

The error message is unrelated to the toolbar customization issue. It is because Mail Redirect tries to place a custom icon fot the redirect window in the program folder. Without this icon, the redirect window has the same icon as the normal Thunderbird icon, instead of it's own icon. This is because starting in TB60 the icon isn't read from the extension directory anymore. Can you specify which toolbar icons aren't shown anymore? Is it from the main Mail Toolbar or from the message toolbar? And...
