It looks like we're going to have to make some cosmetic changes to the 2.2
release. We really need to make an interim release in about 4 weeks time
which will add in support for both MS SQL and Oracle backends. This will
also add in the use of Xapian as a text search engine, which will help make
MailManager more portable to other databases.
There won't be any change to the previously noted 2.2 features, or to the
release date, only to the numbering, as it will now renamed to 2.3. It's
possibly a little unnecessary to do this, but the newly planned 2.2 release
will need to be supported through the normal process. It's also too much
of a change to be considered as a point release, which are really intended
to be used for bugfixes alone.
On the plus side, this does mean that we're getting a good amount of money
from paying customers in order to support development on MailManager. It
also means that you will be getting an updated version which will run on
MS SQL or Oracle should you so wish.
There won't be much need to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 unless you particularly
want this support, so I would suggest upgrading to 2.1 once it is released
rather than waiting for the new 2.2. Bugs and support will be dealt with
identically for both versions.
