I propose to modify play.py so that the decorations are drawn on top of blocks instead as under blocks. I tested that and it looks rather nice, adding a bit depth to the screen. moreover you then cannot have tux standing on an ice block with tux behind a decoration and the block in front. peter, is it ok with you if I commit this modification ? Hi, What do you think about using a IRC channel for the magicor project. I suggest to use freenode or oftc for the server. Any comments? Peter maybe you can open such a channel ? friendly, -- ,''`. Hi, Magicor 1.0 entered yesterday into debian. It has taken some times as we are quite ready to release debian etch so we were focusing on this part instead of adding new software. So please test it and give me feedback or you can use the BTS from debian. Some useful links: - http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/magicor/ - http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/magicor.html Please note that magicor is only in unstalbe ATM. friendly, -- ,''`. Hi all! It seems there has been a significant number of features, graphics and levels added, how about we feature freeze and prepare for a 1.1 release? Again, the major blocker is the Windows installer, this time we would have to have a finished installer for 1.1 around the same time as the release. Is it possible for me to build Windows installers if I'm on a GNU AMD64? /Peter |

rev 162: fire pyshics change: when a fire sits over an ice block and the block is pushed, the fire travels on top of the block ( prev was: fire retain x-pos and falls when block moves away ). See at pompei level 11 for demo, or pompei level 09. I think the change doenst break any existing level, if there where the feature can be made optional ( via fire parameter ) ### Peter, I have a question about the actor classes design: currently theres a number of parameters that must be pased to the constructor for things that exists as only one instance, like level, firegroup, blockgroup, lightgroup. I see several disadvantages with this: .The constructor list grows big and less clear .If you want to change one of the groups ( like we do for the fragment bug ) you need to change every invocation to the constructor, not simply the constructor .If an instance of class A must spawn an instance of class B and class B needs a group, then you must add the group as a parameter in the constructor of A, and change every invocation to the A constructor. You see any disadvantage in making globals for this things, so as no need to pass as constructor params ? There's no hurry with this. In the meantime, I used a proxy ( a dict and a function, the function transfers the info from the PlayState to the dict ). For the 'sliding fire' modification, It lets me not modify the blocks constructor nor each block instantiation, and it will be easy to change to the 'globals' or the 'all parameters' form. ### working in a base class for balls, lava lumps, etc ( flying non living things ). with a little luck I can show some code next week. cya --------------------------------- Preguntá. ### >Regarding the Windows installer, you now have access to both the shell >part (i.e web content) and release system of Magicor. Enjoy! ;) >/Peter thanks, Peter. uploaded the installer. no time to wait till it can be seen in the download page, so a download-run test must wait. maybe tomorrow if I have time. Not updated the home page (not familiarized with sourceforge), can you do it ? I sugest something in the line: Windows: If you have python and pygame the source version its what you want; if not you must download Magicor1.0_Installer.exe wich includes all you need. ### fire over ice physics: at present if you have a fire siting over an ice and this ice is pushed, the fire doenst follow the ice; it falls. This is not a bug, but its counterintuitive. Changing the physics to 'fire follows the ice' can look better an open a trick oportunity, but I dont know how difficult the change can be. ### rev 154: lava smoothed and spitting lava modification ( work in progress ) Lava art redone, more smooth now. The sequence for spiting lava at present is a placeholder, not even a draft. I want to redo the lava animation before doing the spiting lava animation. level09 is a temporal adition to test load of new lavas. Code changes to lava: .the constructor now starts the animation at a frame depending on x position. Before, each lava in the level was at the same frame in the animation. I think it looks better. .the 'erupt' animation now decays to the 'default' animation after completion. .besides 'dormant' and 'ignited' theres two new states for lava, 'spiting' and 'spit_dormant'. The spitting variants acepts extra parameters so as, when ignited, spits periodically lava lumps. At present no lava lumps are trown, need to complete the code for them. .editor code not updated, need to write the lava lump constructor so as to know what parameters. plans to future: .redoing anim .add sequences 'eruptLeft', 'eruptRight' for better looking propagation ### rev 155: new level set: pompei backgrounds done with Povray ( vs 3.1 for the halo ) level09 is not winable at present, idea placeholder plans: . when done spiting lava do more levels, 15 i think . one background per level . maybe final edition for pretiness. ### rev 156: tubes bug: level 08 demostrates a tubes bug, where penguin enter the tube not in the end. Even if the end is blocked with ice. Status: Im not working on this. enjoy !!! claudio --------------------------------- Preguntá. Respondé. Descubrí. Hi all! I now see that magicor has become a part of Debian sid and testing. Superb! With a bit of luck it will prevail into the stable branch for the next release. Very nice work, Xavier! The one piece remaining is the Windows installer/one-click-binaries, can I create usable Windows binaries on my Debian box using the scripts in SVN? If not, perhaps someone with access to Windows could just build a 1.0 installer/executable and upload to the source forge site for downloading? I think it would help a lot for Windows users. /Peter |

Hi, As I can see, the binaries for magicor and the level editor is now in lowercase and seems to work fine. So I changed the debian files to have this changes working. Otherwise, I changed the manpages too, and the debian makefile will take care of docbook. The names of these binaries are now magicor and magicor-editor. So feel to try it and give me feedback. I will now be able to ask my sponsor tu upload it into debian !! friendly, -- ,''`. trunk/doc now has a manual.docbook which will generate manual.xhtml. Dependencies are xsltproc and Walsh's XSLT stylesheets for DocBook. (apt-get install xsltproc docbook-xsl) Claudio, there's a section on where to find configuration files, I don't know how you planned to save system-wide and user-specific configuration files on Windows, perhaps you could add a few lines in that section? Is anything missing? Suggestions are welcome, I will probably release the manual later tonight on the website. /Peter |
