I solved the problem with the non-functional wireless network adaptor in the hp notebook model "compaq nc6000". It was a simple matter of pressing the separate button that enables the wireless network adaptor! That is, next to the power button along the top of the main unit are 3 buttons: the middle one of the three enables the wireless adaptor. You can confirm that it's on because a blue indicator will light up at the bottom left side of the notebook case. Note that I still see tx-power levels of zero, but the wireless card now works on: --SuSE 9.0 PRO. It works out-of-the-box. Just configure and go. Wireless adaptor shows up as 'wlan0'. (Linux kernel version 2.4.xx) --RedHat Fedora Core 1. Does not automatically apper after installing Fedora Core 1. Here's the steps to get it working; when finished, the adaptor is 'ath0'. 1. Compile and install the uudecode tool: google for "uudecode.c"; compile using "make uudecode"; install in /usr/local/bin. 2. Download the madwifi sources from the CVS repository at sourceforge.net, following the directions from the project webpage. Build the sources according to the directions (note that your Kernel config file is in /boot) 3. "make install" to install the madwifi drivers. 4. Add the following line to /etc/modules.conf: alias ath0 ath_pci 5. Reboot your system. The system will now recognize and configure the adaptor. I just accepted the defaults. 6. Tune your wireless configuration by defining options (like ESSID) in /etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/ifcfg-ath0. See the other scripts in this directory for examples of what you can set. -Jeff At 04:21 PM 1/28/2004, I wrote: >System: compaq nc6000 laptop, manufactured by hp >Distribution: Fedora Core 1 >Kernel: 2.4.22-1.2149.nptl > >Problem: >I have built and installed madwifi from the latest sources (I just >verified that I have the latest in the CVS repository).
