Matt -- Thanks for the suggestion. Initially I felt downgrading the wireless tools was the path of least resistance. But since that didn't work, I went ahead and installed 2.4.22-ac4 and returned to the unmodified wireless tools. I also recompiled madwifi with the new kernel. Now iwconfig --version returns: # iwconfig --version iwconfig Version 26 Compatible with Wireless Extension v16 or earlier, Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v16. ath0 Recommend Wireless Extension v13 or later, Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v15. I'm not sure why it says that ath0 was compiled with wireless extension v15. I am not getting the warnings again when I use iwconfig: # iwconfig ath0 Warning: Driver for device ath0 has been compiled with version 15 of Wireless Extension, while this program is using version 16. Some things may be broken... ath0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:5.24GHz Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF Bit Rate:6Mb/s Tx-Power:off Sensitivity=0/242700000 Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality:0/1 Signal level:-95 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 And I still can't set the essid. What is going wrong here? I'm stumped. cheers, -steve |
