ath_mgtstart: discard, no xmit buf this little kernelmessage got me for months now,but after all i have at least worked out how to get around its mean impact. the message appears and the connection to the ap is lost, and stays that way till i ifconfig the card down and up. ive read a lot on this and it seems as if most people having this problem with madwifi and ar5212 based cards are using somewhat of an outdoor router setting doesnt matter much what kernel of madwifi version, use a quite new cvs. in my case the problem still occours ,but does not force me to remod the card up and down to keep the connection working-means if the transmitpower is high enough, the card somehow finds its way to the ap back instead of being stuck at scanning.and for most not so latency dependend connections this seems to be fast enough. so getting a larger antenna or an amplifier at least makes this somewhat usable. what i noticed is that the excessive retries the iwconfig output shows seem to are somewhat related to the problem,as i get much lesser of em when i have more power, and somewhat proportional to that lesser "ath_mgtstart: discard, no xmit buf" msgs. it just appears when a recent number of excessive retries has occured, and when the link quality goes below 20-21 (in my case) the connectioned wont be reetablished.i found this out after i had it working for no obvious reason but a larger antenna, some nights ago a fat storm ripped of the "roofcoating" of the wagon i live in,and with it my antenna.as i was repaired it - more kickin it back to work and wondered why my good old problem came back, for the reason that my a. lost about one third of its power after crashing to ground,i changed nothing within my wlan settings at this point, just gave my a. its power ,and some more, back. well after the final repair some hours ago i haven`t got any of these ugly msgs again even with heavy traffic. maybe it helps some people to save their nerves till this is fixed. |
