Well, I decided to go for it. The bad news is it still wouldn't boot with the card in, so it must be checking the subsystem vendor/device and/or revision number (I wouldn't think they would lock down the revision number, but we'll see). The good news is that I got it to boot and recognize the card as a Broadcom. In fact, it hung first time because I forgot to blacklist bcm43xx, so it tried to load it. After booting without the card and blacklisting bcm43xx, I was able to boot and connect to the AP, with lspci showing the card as a "Broadcom BCM94311MCG wlan mini-PCI (rev 01)". It's progress!
