I'm trying to use my atheros card (AR5BXB63) at work and I'm having some
trouble when I find myself in some bad conditions (noise, interference, low
signal). The result is also different if I use ndiswrapper instead of the
I have to move in wharehouses where most have only one wifi router at one
place and gives good signal at maybe 60% locations inside. At the rest of the
locations I was able to get a low signal that varies a lot (jumps from 30/100 to
0/100) and I make some ping tests that will show a steady 5-10% packet loss and
will go higher some times. This is bad, but is sufficient for my work.
Besides, some of the more high tech warehouses are already equipped with several
routers we can roam to (havent tried that yet, i'm working in the old ones).
My job is not to tell my boss to buy better/more equipment. He already
knows, it's being planned. In the mean time, I have to get by. My main problem
is with association at the begining and then, seems I have a lot of problem
acquiring an address from the dhcp server (which only happens with atheros, not
with ndiswrapper). Also, I have a feeling the association has been more easy
Reason for my email is that I don't know much about wireless, I'm still
learning a lot and I already got confused a bit since madwifi uses different
tools (wlanconfig). I've read about changing the sensitivity of the card but
read that this works very differently from card to card, etc...
In anyway, I was wondering if you could recommend some concentrated readings
on getting myself connected in a bad environment? urls, google keywords, man
pages to read, anything will do (i'm tired of working here, walking there just
to send, walking back...).
Thanks in advance,
