My first response was 'well why not', my second response was 'well maybe
the beacons for Ad-Hoc don't include the requisit information'. Then I
ran across a web reference which suggested that WPA was only intended for
AP-Station use, but WPA-2 and 802.11i may have Ad-hoc support.
My last round with WPA was using the AP-Station set up, and a significant
part of the problem was setting up the Radius server correctly, getting
correct, etc. and in my case writting the driver level code to handle
key management (the driver was not based on Madwifi.). And oh yeah, getting
the byte endian weirdnesses delt with.
Have you tried the wpa_supplicant package out using Ad-Hoc? At the moment
I don't have time to look into this, but I have been asked about
securing the Ad-Hoc
configuration I'm currently working with, so this is of interest to me.
