I am a newbie in Linux and I am not sure how to proceed wit whe the
madwifi driver. I have a laptop with an Atheros AR5005GS wireless
adapter which I want to use with Mandrake 10.1. The OS comes with the
ath-pci driver but when I try to load it with Mandrake Control Centre, I
get the error:
"Driver ath_pci failed on /usr/bin/perl-install/modules.pm line 302"
Someone told me to install the madwifi driver but I had a first go and
didn't succeed. I have read the readme file but honestly it is well over
my head. I can compile all right, but I do not know what to do after
that. In the readme file it says somewhere that to load the driver I
should type as a root "modprobe ath_pci". But when I do that I get the
error: "no such module ath_pci".
Could you give me a hand here telling me what to do after compiling and
if there are no conflicts with the native ath_pci?
