Looking at the title of the topics at this forum, it seems that I am
asking a very stupid question to all of you. I have installed Suse 9.2
64 bit on my laptop : Sager 4750 which uses a Gigabyte 802.11g wireless
card with Atheros chipset. Suse could not detect the wireless card. My
question is : if I download the tarball source of the MADWIFI driver,
compile it, will I able to use the wireless? Or do I have to do

First of all you should make sure that your card really uses an Atheros
chipset (check the output of "lspci -v" and see if you find "Atheros"
It should be possible to get Madwifi running with SuSE by installing the
driver from the tarball. But be aware that you might need to install
some additional packages (sharutils, the source of the kernel you're
currently running along with the configuration that was used to build
this kernel, and so on).
If you give it a try and run into troubles, looking at the archives of
this mailing list is a good idea - many of the usual problems and their
solution have been already discussed. And if this doesn't help we'll try
to be of help in finding a solution for your problem.
