I am using the Atheros cards with my experiment. My experiment only involves 2 nodes. I set one card as AP in Master mode, and the other as Station in managed mode. AP sends out packets at a constant rate, and monitor the RSSI of the received packets in the Station. But the received RSSI fluctuates, say in the beginning the RSSI is 67, then becomes 25, after a while back to 67. Does any one know what is going on here? Also it is said the RSSI_MAX for Atheros card is 60 or 63, now I am getting sth larger the the maximum value. What is the reason for this?

Section 4.3 of the FAQ mentions: "Don't be surprised if you get very
different figures across invocations of iwconfig (or whichever iw tool),
the RSSI will change with time due to interference, channel fading
etc.". This might be a possible explanation for your experience. OTOH
the difference between the two values you see is rather large...
