Here is my problem : I'm trying to compile and install an old version
(r1417, 20060128) of Madwifi. It's an old version because I need it for a
very particular task, whatever...
I'm using Debian etch, with kernel 2.4.27-2-386.
When I run the *make*, all seems to be ok (except 3 or 4 warnings) and it
compiles without error.
But when I run *make install*, the result is always :
*make: 'install' is up to date.*
And of course when I try to load the module with *modprobe ath_pci* it gives
me : *modprobe: Can't locate module ath_pci*.
I was wondering if someone has an idea of where the problem could be...
(apparently not in the compilation)
I also mention that before I tried to install this old version, the newer
0.9.4 version of madwifi was installed (and working). I removed it using the
scripts provided with this version (It seems to have worked but maybe it did
not. I don't know exactly how to check it.)
Here is the exact make install command I run :
*make install CC=gcc-3.3 GCC=gcc-3.3 TARGET="i386-elf"
Thank you very much for your help!

That's probably an indication that you have a file or directory called
"install". If you need to keep it, you should add "install" to the
dependencies of ".PHONY" in every Makefile.
As the last resort, you can copy the modules manually.
And by the way, if you specify DESTDIR=/tmp/madwifi, it means that
everything will be installed under /tmp/madwifi, including the modules,
so modprobe won't find them.
