Yeah tht is the correct way of getting the noise floor. Iam not exactly sure as to how madwifi calcluates noise floor value, but even I have seen that most of the time it remains constant at -96dbm (very rarely it changes to other -94, -95dbm or so).

Though the noise floor values as reported by hostap driver for prism chipset cards does vary depending on the interference present.
