Hi Saha,

You need to have an AP vap for setting the essid.

As ath0 is a wds vap, you can not set the essid.

Your setup for wds connection works, but the ideal setup should include an AP vap.

Please refer,

Subject: [Madwifi-users] Unable to set ESSID on the interface

Dear All,

I have made a wds connection between two APs using the following commands. But now i am unable to set the essid on the interfaces. The scenario is as follows:

./iwconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode wds

iwpriv ath0 wds_add <MAC of Ap2>

iwpriv ath0 wds 1

iwpriv ath0 mode 11a

iwconfig ath0 channel 44

ifconfig ath0 <IP> up

I have executed the commands on both the sides and

I can able to ping Ap2 from Ap1 and vice-versa.

I tried to set the essid on ath0 so that i can associate client on it.

But  it is giving the following error:

Error for wireless request "Set ESSID"(8B1A):

SET failed on device ath0;Operation not supported.

Anyone plz help me in this regard.

With thanks,
