I've been trying to setup an access point on Fedora 6 using the latest Madwifi release (0.9.4).

Here are the commands that I run as root:

wlanconfig ath0 destory
wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap
ifconfig ath0 inet netmask up
iwconfig ath0 essid MY_AP
iwconfig ath0 channel 6

When I use iwconfig ath0 channel 6, my OS crashes. I'm using Fedora 6, but also when I use Ubuntu Hardy.

I'm using a Desktop to set this up, and it has an Atheros AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)

I see the beacons. If I try to connect, it does not associate with the AP and connects to my default network.
I did not find anything on the Madwifi site to setup the ap using the command line prompt. The documentation was only to create the scripts and enable the ap to start when the computer starts.

I know that switching the channel creates a deadlock, but if I don't set a channel and use the default set channel, can I connect to the AP?

I just want a simple AP connection without any encryption.
