That is what I meant too. I'd guess the multi-line environments would  
have to be set at text rather than maths; i.e., use ``text'' for full  
control.

I would suggest that there is little need for a baseline for  
displayed equations and the offset from the lower left corner can be  
(0pt,0pt) in those situations. I think it is only for in-line  
equations that you run into a problem; am I correct there?
