After building my own kernel and installing onto my mac mini, I think
that the Ubuntu live CD just uses an aggressive CPU scaling rules set,
which doesn't use the full CPU unless necessary. My machine is
currently using all of both CPUs, but with the Live CD both were
mostly around 1GHz.
