That really takes me back to where I want to be anyway.  Drop me your 
config, that would be great, but recall, I had problems getting it to 
boot.  I've give it a go again though.

The messages above were not all together, but spread across 
/var/logs/messages, I grepped for SMP to get that info.  Looking at 
/var/log/messages, I see no reference to udev at all.

Although 'ps' shows:

root  491  0.0  0.0  13032  1212 ? S<s  06:50   0:00 /sbin/udevd -d
