But the legacy BIOS in those Macs does not support booting from USB. So you'll have to boot using EFI. I've been trying to do that on-and-off, in the hope to get my trusty "rescue USB key" to also work on my Macbook Pro, but until now I haven't had much success, tho it seems that some people do get to boot Linux via EFI on their Mac.
