Hi, > hold fn ctrl alt f1 works as aspected, i'm able to switch from X to Text mode. as test i done : - fn + ctrl + alt + F1 - then in the text mode i type : "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" All works fine, but if i try to install the driver - fn + ctrl + alt + F1 - "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" - "sudo sh ati-radeon-driver.run" i followed the instruction, but when finished, tring to restart X - "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" i get a black screen, and i can't any action, so i forced quit holding power-off I thinked ... :- "maybe the reasonis propietary driver" so .. i rebooted again from the live-dvd then in : System->Preference->Detect-Hardware Utility ubuntu detect the presence of avaiable drivers for my Ati-1600 i choose "activate" and whait for download/install the driver when finished i do : - fn + ctrl + alt + F1 - "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" - "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" but again ... i have a black screen :-( (the same procedure on my desktop, works fine) Thanks again for any suggestion guys! regards, Massimo.
