The support of VESA is broken with X.org 7.1. The screen is staircased
as shown in the attached picture.
I have a similar problem with the frame buffer X.org 7.1 driver and an
EFI boot. But the solution to use " Option "ShadowFB" "false" " is
not possible with the VESA driver. Maybe a similar option would
correct the problem.
You can easily reproduce the problem. Just boot on the Ubuntu 6.10 CD
(in BIOS mode). The console frame buffer mode is correct but when the
X server starts the screen is unreadable. It is very annoying since
installing a system using a normal boot CD is no more possible (it
worked with X.org 7.0).
The problem is not limited to Mac Mini as reported in the mail "Mac
Mini & Vesa FB" dated 22-Oct-2006 15:00.
I don't know if the problem is limited to Apple machines only or not.
I guess/hope the VESA mode is working correctly on other machines.
Anybody has a solution?
