Hi, Mactel users. I have a question for Macbook Pro user. I am maintaining isight-firmwae-tools on Debian. A user says that firmware is unnecessary for iSight of Macbook Pro. The user is using iSight using neither isight-firmware-tools nor AppleUSBVideoSupport file. I do not have Macbook Pro, and there is no user in the acquaintance. iSight of MacBook Pro need the firmware? Please teach when knowing. Best regards, Nobuhiro -- Nobuhiro Iwamatsu |

As for not having to use the firmware I'm not too sure, I guess if a module was created with the firmware already inside the code!!! regards; -- Justin P. Mattock |

Yes, the driver for old iSight also had the version with the firmware among drivers. However, I think that the version supported only initial Macbook and Macbook Pro. However, he might be handling the old driver. Thank you for advice. Nobuhiro -- Nobuhiro Iwamatsu |

I needed the firmware otherwise the device was not found... And as I don't think the newer drivers include the firmware it will still be necessary. However it could be that loading the firmware once per power on is enough (even booting OSX + using the camera once and rebooting to linux + isight could still work). Soeren |

There is a possibility that the firmware of OSX remains in the memory of hardware. I will hear this point. Thank you. Nobuhiro -- Nobuhiro Iwamatsu |

Even a reboot is often not good enough to unload the firmware. You have to completely shutdown and startup again. |

We noticed that when the Macbook Air came out that the iSight in them did not require firmware loading at all. They may have started using the same camera in the newest Macbook Pro as well. Also, for those that were reporting problems, the newest version of IFT using Hal for loading instead of udev and is much more reliable. I also have already used the one corresponding to HAL. Does operation change in udev and HAL? Operation has not changed though I tried both. Thank you. Nobuhiro -- Nobuhiro Iwamatsu |

It was as if the script was not even executing sometimes. The HAL-based loader seems to work much better, though there are still some problems being reported with the video chain not being created, but it is not the fault of IFT. Compiling the newest uvcvideo source tends to fix the problem. |

Hi, I can confirm MacBook Pro rev4,1 (feb 2008) doesn't need firmware anymore, just works out of the box with the latest linux-uvc svn (Debian Etch w/ 2.6.24.5). It is good information ! I wish to express my gratitude for your information. Firmware will become unnecessary as for all Macbook series in the future. Best regards, Nobuhiro -- Nobuhiro Iwamatsu |
