clickFingers.patch

Hi, I recently found out that Mac OS X had a nice way to right-clock with the touchpad. Just hold two fingers on the pad and click with the button. So you are now able to right click w/o a tap. And more useful ... you are able to move objects with the right mouse button. So I thought this had to be implemented in synaptics. Ans I implemented it (wasn't so difficult). Here is my patch for those who are interested. I already sent it to Peter Osterlund who is I believe the maintainer of synaptic ... and I didn't have any answers. So I give it to you who might be interested. Note that I only talked about right click, but there is also middle click implemented. The man page is also patched, so you can see there the new configuration options ClickFingerN where N is the number of fingers you have on the pad (up to 3). The argument is an integer and represents the mouse button (or à to disable). My configuration have: Option "ClickFinger1" "1" Option "ClickFinger2" "3" Option "ClickFinger3" "2" So, two fingers + clock results in a right click and three fingers + click results in middle mouse button. I use gentoo ~x86 too and what you say is indeed correct, but
Mildred's hack (which I have not yet tested, although I certainly have
it on my todo-list) apparently adds the option to click the existing
mouse button WHILE holding two/three fingers on the mouse pad and
hence make it possible to also DRAG stuff with other mouse buttons. I
also suspect that this approach should make right/middle clicking more
more reliable (I certainly fail now and then unless I concentrate).
Personally, I don't need the drag option, but I'll happily swap if
this proves to be more reliable for right clicking.
I'd also appreciate an official option for swapping the horizontal
scroll direction - basically, permitting negative HorizScrollDelta
arguments. IMHO, the current implemention has backwards (at least for
my MBP).
