-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I finally got a gnu-efi build environment working, thanks to a tip fro Joshua LeVassour: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php? s=&showtopic=11354&view=findpost&p=82447 With that, I have patched ELILO to switch the console to text mode on its own and submitted the patch to the ELILO project on SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php? func=detail&aid=1460534&group_id=91879&atid=598711 With that patch it is now possible to build a Live CD without ebounce.efi or rEFIt. Just bless elilo.efi and it will come up in text mode. BTW, ELILO has a built-in text menu and should be able to display banner messages like LILO or ISOLINUX. Greetings, chrisp - -- chrisp a.k.a. I've seen rumors on the web that someone at xensource had something running on a duo core iMac. I'm hoping that's true.. I haven't tried yet but am planning on a similar setup. I have rEFIt and a hack of the live CD and my own setup running off a USB flash. When I get some spare time, I was going to try 3.0.1 to see what it does (should fail miserably). MRJ |

Just wanted to say that the Live CD seems to boot fine on my mac mini. However, now that I have a user land to poke around in, I have observed a couple of issues: 1. As reported earlier, the framebuffer does seem a bit cut off; about half a line is missing from the console. 2. The CPU frequency scaling seems strange; CPU1 (the second core) only seems to run at 1 GHz. I can modulate the frequency of the first but not the second CPU. Anyway, thanks to gimli for the live CD image. Gnome 2.14 looks pretty nice! -- Erik P.S. Does anyone have any pointers on how I could start to add resolution auto-detection to the imacfb driver? |

Hi, I am thinking of buying a MacBook Pro if it can run Xen :) Hence these questions: Is Virtualization Technology(VT) aka Vanderpool enabled on the Core Duo Mactel machines? If so, is it possible to run a VT enabled Xen kernel in dom0 and then run Ubuntu as a guest OS? I would like to help/contribute, if it is possible and someone is working on/towards such a configuration. regards, ratan |

In the most recent kernel patch, the "EXTRAVERSION = -iMac" line breaks the Debian kernel packaging system, which doesn't like upper-case letters. Maybe it should either be left blank, or use something like "-imac" ? Dan |

A new live CD is online. Whats new : Support for the Macbook Pro have been improved. FN Key hook, Smart Battery support. 3 button mouse emulation. ( F11, F12 ) dm_mod which cuased problems on mouting partitions should not be loaded anymore. A fresh svn snapshoot of the madwifi drivers is included. Ndiswrapper for the Broadcom cards in the iMac. Latest ubuntu dapper updates. The CD should be able to start on "normal PC's". happy penguin Edgar (gimli) Hucek |

Hi all, I successfully installed gentoo on my new mac mini thanks to patches =20 and instructions found on the website. It is installed on the hard disk in a separate partition. refit, =20 elilo and my kernel are installed on a usb key. So when I want to =20 boot Linux I have to press the option key and choose Linux. It's =20 fine, but loading the kernel from the usb key is quite long (usb 1). =20 I'd like to let elilo on the usb key, but put the kernel on my ext3 =20 partition. Elilo doesn't seem to see my ext3 partition (when I press =20 "=3D" ), which seems strange to me. Is it normal ? Is it possible to =20 boot directly from an ext3 partition or do I have to put the kernel =20 on a hpfs or fat partition ? Also, I was wondering, *if* linux kernel were able to write in hpfs =20 partitions, couldn't we just put an entire Linux system in the same =20 partition than macosX ? Like install it in /Linux and pivot root at =20 boot time ? I think I'm going to write a tutorial in french on how to install =20 gentoo on a mac mini. Once it will be done, may I put it in the wiki ? Thank you, Regards, R=E9mi Flament.= |

I wouldn't worry - having looked at the code, it's plainly impossible for suspend to work on EFI machines (code that's flagged __init is called in the suspend and resume paths, for instance). I'm working on fixing it up, we'll see if it actually gets anywhere. -- Matthew Garrett | mj...@sr... |

Hello,
I have a Mac Mini and would like to use the soundcard.
(mini) [~] lspci | grep -i Audio
0000:00:1b.0 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
(mini) [~] dmesg | grep -A 1 ALSA
ALSA device list:
#0: HDA Intel at 0x90440000 irq 209
This doesn't look so bad, but when I start aumix I see only three
channels:
Vol
IGain
Digital1
cat /bin/ls > /dev/audio gives me nothing. Not on the Headphones and not
on the build in speakers.

Generally, on the macs, if you mute the audio from within OSX, the startup sound will also mute. Since the new macs aren't using openfirmware, I'm not sure where this information is stored, though, so I'm not sure how you would set it from Linux. Dave |
