Hi, recently GPG announced a security problem with signatures. False signatures= were detected not by all checkers because they used not all information. C= an anyone tell me if the MacGPG tools are affected, too? Another question: I had Apple scripts working with Mailsmith to encrypt my = e-mails. Since I switched to OS X 10.4 the scripts do not work any more. Of= course I can encrypt the text outside the mail client and attach it to my = mail, but thats not an ideal solution. Has anyone else experienced this, to= o? The MacGPG Project is pleased to announce the availability of an installer for GnuPG 1.4.1. This installer should give any Mac OS X User the ability to easily install gnupg (http://www.gnupg.org) including documentation and howtos onto their computer. This installer will also make sure that the path /usr/local/ is added to your PATH variable. Furthermore it will create a backup copy of your gnupg files to give you the possibility to securely store your private and public keyrings. You also will find a copy of a current option file in your .gnupg directory. This should enable you to compare the current available options with the ones you are using in gnupg.conf and act appropriate. You may find Mac GnuPG 1.4.1 under this address: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/macgpg/GnuPG1.4.1.dmg?download MD5: f4eb3c7d233e18fd1bf56d6bb576bbd9 Detached signature: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/macgpg/GnuPG1.4.1.dmg.sig?download Servus Alexander MacGPG Project Admin |

Hi, just to let you know: From 31 August to 4 September 2004 the Apple Expo in Paris (http://www.apple-expo.com) will take place. For this reason MacGeneration (http://www.macgeneration.com) -- an organisation taking care of Mac software localized in French -- posted an award for the best Mac product available in french (http://trophee.macgeneration.com). Since we take pretty much care of localizing our software incl. documentation I thought it was a good idea for registering for that award. So keep your fingers crossed! If there is anybody out there willing to actualize the french page on http://macgpg.sf.net I would be glad to support you where I can. first of all I would like to thank Gordon for bringing this project
into being, early enough, so that it could develop as Mac OS X
developped. His ambitious administration brought this project to a very
good state and it will be difficult to proceed at a similar level.
I will try my very best.
However, please bear with me while I try to get an overview of what
needs to be done and how we can continue the good work. I have to admit
that I am not a programmer at all. I'm just an ambitious user,
interested in privacy and willing to help to find easy ways for Mac
users to protect their privacy as well. This was the reason why I was
contributing to the Mac GPG Project to the best of my abilities and I
will continue to do so even harder now.
If you have any ideas on how we should proceed in this project do not
hesitate to tell me. Any help is appreciated.
Gordon, I wish you all the best for whatever you will be doing in the
future. However, stay tuned with us :-)
Servus

Hi, everyone.
For the past few weeks I've been trying to find a replacement
administrator for the Mac GPG Project. I'm glad to report that
Alexander Nouak, our current Webmaster, translation coordinator,
installer constructor, and generally all-hands person is going to
become the new administrator for the project.
I'm resigning for several reasons. Primarily, I'm burnt out. I just
don't have the motivation to do the job anymore. After three years of
dealing with the project on an almost daily basis, doing a lot of the
development and coordination, I'm spent of energy for the project.
Also, my interests have changed. I still think cryptography is
interesting and important, but as I move to graduate school I'm
focusing more of my time on research and less of it on producing
software for end users. The reading and writing I need to do for my
research interests is a lot of fun, but also time consuming, reducing
time for Mac GPG.
Finally, because of my time restraints and loss of enthusiasm, I felt
that continuing on as your administrator would be a disservice to the
project. You need someone more active, and I think Alexander fills
this role. I'm confident that he will take the project in exciting
directions.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has used the software.
It's gratifying to know that you can affect many people's lives,
helping them protect their privacy and, in some cases, their lives!
I'm very appreciative of all the support I've received over the years
from countless users who wrote in to say "thanks". Well, this is my
big thank you to everyone. You guys really are the best group of users
a developer could ask for.
Although I'm moving on, I'm sure this is not the last time I'll contact
some of you. Paths often converge unexpectedly and I look forward to
colliding with some of you in the future. :-)
So long, and thanks for all the crypts!

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Thank you to everyone for your patience in awaiting GPG 1.2.1 for Mac OS X. I am pleased to announce that the installer is now available at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=20789. It is localized for English, German and French, with partial Spanish localization. As always, additional localizations are always welcome. Please reply to me at this address if you are interested. New features in this version include: * GPG 1.2.1 * Meta-package installation, so that the gpg binaries and basic documentation are separate from localized documentation. French users can simply install gpg and the French documentation, etc. NOTE: This installer is for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) only. It will not work on Mac OS X 10.1.5 and earlier. Users who want GPG 1.2.1 for these systems may either follow the directions at http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/docs/howto-build-gpg-osx.txt.asc or use fink (http://fink.sf.net/) to install the latest version. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 After some delay, GPGFileTool 0.9 is available. Here's what's new: Fixed the error where it would sometimes not find the file that corresponded to a detached signature. The (null) error with multiple signatures also seems to clear up some by upgrading to GnuPG 1.2.0. The Tool Tips are more helpful. GPGKeys 0.5.1 fixes crashes when trying to display some Latin-1 encoded names. Keep in mind that Latin-1 is not accepted by the OpenPGP standard, but it is being supported in display for backwards compatibility. You must still use UTF-8 when generating your own keys.
