#105 Files locking for no apparent reason

Under MacOSX.2.2 and I believe 9.2.2 I'm having the problem
that MacCVS Pro 2.7d3 has started mysteriously locking files
when they are committed or checked out. First it was just one
file, then a few, now over 100. The number is steadily
increasing and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it, nor
any way to make it stop (I care because I get two annoying
dialogs in BBEdit now instead of just one when I try to edit a file
controlled by MacCVS Pro.)
