That's probably not a bad idea. We may as well use sourceforge's features to our advantage. It's better than you and I keeping individual notes ;) On Mon, Jun 16, 2008 at 10:25 PM, Josh Klun <jm...@co...> wrote: > Mike, > > Anyway, I've got no problem integrating this code, as long as it > doesn't break anything :) > > On a related note, this makes me think of an existing bug: The > formatters don't get uniformly reset when the unit preference is > changed. Mike, Anyway, I've got no problem integrating this code, as long as it doesn't break anything :) On a related note, this makes me think of an existing bug: The formatters don't get uniformly reset when the unit preference is changed. I suppose it would make sense to start filing these issues. Josh On Jun 12, 2008, at 10:47 AM, Mike O'Malley wrote: > Other than flexibility, probably not much. Other than flexibility, probably not much. It's just a unit formatter after all ;). I suppose it also lets you standardize the internal math on SI units without having to worry about it. -- M Josh Klun wrote: > Mike, > > It seems like a good idea, but I think we'd need to wrap it in the > existing number formatter classes. Mike, It seems like a good idea, but I think we'd need to wrap it in the existing number formatter classes. Other than flexibility, what would it add? I got it. Did you get the mail I sent the other day about the unit converter? On Wed, Jun 11, 2008 at 10:36 AM, Josh Klun <jm...@co...> wrote: > I'm testing the functionality of this mailing list. Josh:
I'm CCing you because I'm not sure that the list is working. One thing I had
implemented in Beerista that was actually working was a pretty slick units
converter. It used a units.xml file to read in unit types, names, and their
conversion factor. All the data was stored and operated on in SI format, and
then on output converted to whatever unit was set in the user defaults.
One of the nice things that this allowed was the addition of new unit types
later on without any code change (I realize this doesn't happen too often,
but it was still cool). It would also allow a user to pick whatever unit
'size' they wanted for a given measurement (grams instead of kilograms for
example). If you look at the Beerista source, there are two sets of c++
files that I'd like to convert to obj-c and add to MacBarley (Units.cc and
UnitConverter.cc).
units.xml looked like:
<units>
<mass>
<unit key="SI" lname="Kilograms" sname="kg" multiplier="1.0"/>
<unit key="US" lname="US Pounds" sname="lbs"
multiplier="2.20462262"/>
<unit key="ST" lname="Stone" sname="st" multiplier="0.157473044"/>
</mass>
</units>
and would go on with <smallmass/>, <volume/>, <smallvolume/>, <weight/>,
<smallweight/>, and so on.
Any objections?
:Mike
