#11 MP3 to WAV conversion results in white noise

When converting an mp3 to WAV format @44.1, using
Normalize to 95% creates a file with the .wav
extention. Opening the file in Quicktime all looks
well, but the audio is total white (or pink?) noise at
a constant level for the length (duration) of the file.
