Thanks for the prompt response. Does this mean that when I put
(setq default-frame-alist 
      '((font . "-*-Courier-*-*-*-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*")))
Emacs is actually using the TTF fonts rather  than the postscript?
Why was this working with your previous patches? :-)
So, in general, what kind of fonts can I provide to Emacs?
