On MacOSX I see the following in the src/mac.c file

  defsubr (&Sx_selection_exists_p);
#endif /* 0 */

I have had problems with this. Emacs needs this function in menubar.el and 
 I cannot redefine without having emacs hang. Is there any reason why
 this is commented out?
I also have problems setting debug-on-error to true. It also hangs
 emacs.
