Well, this is not completely true...
My applescripts call emacs from a shell command.
As an example, the following works perfectly:
tcsh -c '/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs -rv -bg red myfile.tex &'
The general idea is:
tcsh -c '/Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs OPTIONS &'
where the ampersand should be before the quote.
