    Hi

I'd like to use the xz format for archiving data. I want to use md5 or sha-1 to index my files, since those checksums are already available for the data that I have. For that purpose I would like for xz to calculate either md5 or sha1 as the checksum of the uncompressed data stream.

Are there plans to support these types of checksums?

    Thanks for any replies.

The closest that the .xz format and tools already support is SHA-256. Technically it is possible to define new check types, but I won't do that easily. MD5 and SHA-1 are unlikely to be accepted into the official specification.

Yes, I don't suppose that this is a common feature request.

I'll make the necessary modifications myself later.
