Manual align

This tool allows to manually set the alignment offsets of each images.

You can initialize all images alignment at (0,0) with the "Zero" button, cancel all images alignment with the "Reset" button, and modify an existing alignment offsets with the "dx" and "dy" fields. The "step" field set the pixel length by which the offsets are modified when using the x or y steppers.
The image can also be moved by the same amount, using "⌥➡︎" or "⌥⬅︎".
To visualize the alignment, the images can be blinked with the reference image or merged with it by difference or division.

To align each image, you should initialize all alignments to zero, and then compare the images two by two. The first image shall be selected as a reference with the "reference" button, and then select the second image in the list.
Depending on the kind of image:

  • you can blink it with the current reference, using the "blink" button or the spacebar,
  • or you can display the difference with the reference by selecting the "difference" blending method, and the "blend" radio button,
  • when aligned, the image contrast falls to a minimum,
  • the division blending method is suited for comparing images taken with different exposures, the corona of a total solar eclipse for example
  • the contrast also falls to a minimum when both images are aligned
