First, I'd like to say congrads to "ninnyen" for being the next dev to join our band of coders. It's good to have you on board and it's nice to see people getting back into this project!
Secondly, we've got the UI functional again. Just having a problem with playlist iteration. so, if you try running the cvs code i just checked in, lymric will probably do nothing or crash...
Thirdly, surphaze has managed to get lymric buildable with scons, the python build tool (think automake/conf minus some of the hassle). To build with scons, just type "scons" from the root directory and watch the magic. To clean, just type "scons -c" and the magic continues. Surphaze will probably maintain that build system and I'll continue using autoconf/make.
Lymric is back - we keep saying that and, i think this time, we're here to stay. Surphaze and myself have started back up with development. I've done some work to fix problems we've had with action_queue (got rid of it and went signal based, it's so much sexier that way). And now we've just some broken things in CVS. So, hopefully, by weeksend, we'll have something working back in CVS.
Currently, GstPlay, the media back end for lymric is going to be dropped [for a couple of reasons] in favor of a similar but lighter implementation that suits lymric's needs. More on this as developments unfold.
So far we've improved the build system, added non-visualisation support, and better esd/oss support into lymric.
For those that want to alpha test what's in anon-cvs, we offer a version of gstplay called gstplaylite, that's the default player for lymric. if you want to use the one offered in gst-plugins, use the --enable-gnome command arg during configure.
Next on the docket is memory leak plugging for the directory scanner.
Today I was able to integrate surphaze's kickass UI with my gstplay based code and we were able to actually play music with lymric in it's current status.
So, needless to say, today was really friggin exciting! Oh, we also picked up a couple of new devs - the new lymric road testing team is: bikingduck, dobey, rhett_robinson, and bikepirate.
more work to come this week...
Looks like we're actually getting work completed on lymric! In cvs, we have a module called "lymrictoo" that's our current development tree.
Both Surphaze and myself have been eagerly working a couple hours everynight on lymric - he's handling UI now and I'm still doing gstreamer integration.
Txtger/njohnso has moved into more web oriented work, he'll be maintaining our webpage from here on out.... read more
I added some changes to the site, Alan [aka txtger] has started moving his UI code into cvs - those of you building that stuff, beware it's not auto-ma-fide just yet and zero functionality has been connected to it.
In other news...Alan has been doing a lot of UI hacking. Our plan for Lymric is becoming more unified as we agree on various ways of doing things. I've lost a large porition of my playback code and am currently planning on writing it all over again using gobjects - shouldn't take very long. Alan has said a lot of good things about gobject.... read more
