I have the same problem. My Archlinux with 2.6.33 kernel and KMS *on* has lxterminal 0.1.7 window missing. Lxterminal 0.1.6 works fine.
If I disable KMS and edit a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with 'EXA' accel. for my ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 (r200), lxterminal 0.1.7 it's ok.
My hardware: Ibm ThinkPad T40, Intel single core 1.5Mhz, ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32Mb ram (M7).
My software: Lxde in current Archlinux, kernel 2.6.33-arch.

This is really excellent information. It certainly points to the Radeon driver (or the part that is in Mesa) as where the fault actually lies. Which of the many Radeon drivers are you using?

Here is the response from Xorg. If someone who experiences the problem could gather the xorg.log and dmesg and file the bug, that would be appreciated. I believe we have the screenshot attached to this bug already.

Please file a bug (https://bugs.freedesktop.org product xorg,
component: Driver/Radeon) and attach your xorg log, dmesg, and a
picture of the problem.
Looking at the screenshot, it may be insufficient information unless you describe how it is supposed to look -- i.e. I configured it to be red and it is black. Another way of doing it would be a before and after shot on 0.1.6 and 0.1.7 with the same configuration.
I use ImageMagick to do screenshots: import -window root MyScreenshot.png
There are many other ways.

Actually, I should have said a before and after shot on 0.1.7 with and without the Xorg configuration changes. Otherwise the finger of fault points in the wrong direction.

I'm using "radeon" open driver, ver. 6.12.192-1 (http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/xf86-video-ati/).
I should have asked you what your window manager is, so we know if it is compositing or not.
I'm going to post a pointer to this over at the Xorg mailing list, in hopes that the right people will see it there.
Ok :-)
My window manager is Openbox 3.4.11.1-1, without any 3d effect like compiz or other.

I'm sorry, I'm late :-)
I updated the open driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 and the new Xorg 1.8. Lxterminal 0.1.7 works fine.
No problem. Thanks for all your effort on this. That was some fine detective work.
I'll leave this Pending Remind for a while so that if others have the issue they can see the resolution. I'll also post a note to the mailing list.
