Hello, Sun's Desktop Software Head - Hans Mueller - has sent in an email telling me that he will include a slide on Luxor at his upcoming JavaOne talk on tools that let you build Swing applications using markup languages. Hans Mueller is especially interested in listing projects using Luxor on the slide. If you are using Luxor, please let us know and your reference or project may end up in a JavaOne presentation! - Gerald |

Hello, after getting some requests about commercial licensing I've decided to switch the Luxor license to the GNU Library/Lesser GPL. I will update the Luxor websites soon to reflect the new licensing policy. Again thanks for your interest in the Luxor XML UI language toolkit. Let me know if this new licensing policy works for you. - Gerald |

To use Luxor starting with version Beta 9 you need to use Maven. See http://maven.apache.org for details. Hi, I tried the simple minimalistic xul-example for the 1.0-b8 which worked fine, but switching to 1.0-b9 got me into trouble with supplying the right libraries. It look's like most of the used libraries (e.g. salsa, jaxen, ...) are new and yet unreleased version and it's very hard to find them anywhere. I gave up trying as i ran in to the first complaints about Classes which are no longer part of the actual versions (ist was salsa or so). Is there a complete set of libraries available like the one that was provided for 1.0-b8 (called luxor-libs) or at least a description of it with links of where to get the libaries? I discovered some jars under luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/nightly but no key what needs to be provided. Are the Sources for 1.0.9 downloadable as a complete bundle anywhere. It would be a great improvement for the debugging if the sources that belong to a version would be available for downloaded as one zip or tar file. If not so, can I check-out the sources from cvs.sourceforge.net as a whole anywhere? I looked under http://www.ibiblio.org/maven but I didn't find anything about luxor. (The Sourcelink on the projects homepage http://luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/crossref/index.html seems to te out of date for it does'nt match the real Classes) greetinx, Henning |

Hello, Just to let you know that I checked in the sources for the Luxor Eclipse SWT edition yesterday and that I also switched over the build to use Maven. You can browse the source online @ http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/luxor-xul/luxor-swt - Gerald |

Hello, Let me know if anyone has any experience with AOP and AspectJ. About a year ago R. Dale Asberry (of Judy Jini.org project fame) has used AspectJ in Luxor development. See the Memphis Sun story online @ http://luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/sun/2004/01/aspectj_in_action_weave_in_your_own_luxor_xul_widget_attributes.html for details. Back than I was all new to AOP and I didn't really see the value because I had only a vague idea what AOP is all about. Now a year later the value of AOP is clear and AOP and AspectJ will help to simplify the Luxor programming model by weaving in, for example, new methods to the Swing or SWT widget classes. Anyways, let me know if there's any interest in keeping an AspectJ-free version. If not, the next version of Luxor, that is, Beta 10 will start using AspectJ. - Gerald PS: You can find out more about AspectJ @ http://eclipse.org/aspectj PPS: For more about adding new methods to existing classes, see the IBM developerworks article titled "AOP banishes the tight-coupling blues - Build highly decoupled systems with the power of static crosscutting" by Andrew Glover online @ http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/j-aopsc |

Hello, I've completed the switch-over for the Luxor core library to the Maven build system. Now you can get all dependend libraries from the ibiblio.org Maven repository Libraries not yet available at ibiblio.or such as Apollo, Rachel, etc. you can get at the Luxor Maven repository online @ http://luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/nightly Note, that Luxor Beta 9 is a maintainance release to get development back on track and thus the release doesn't include major changes. I invite you to send in your patches you want to see added for the next maintainance release. If you run into any trouble using the latest release, let us know and post your questions and comments to the luxor-xul-user mailinglist. See http://luxorforum.com for details. Enjoy and have a great weekend. - Gerald |

Hello, For your information: I finally got around to upgrade the build system using Maven. Luxor now sports a "nightly" Maven distribution folder holding developer builds. See http://luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/nightly for details. So far I've upgraded all Ajax libraries to use Maven for builds. The line-up includes Apollo, Cypress, Houston, Caramel and Salsa. Over the next couple of days I will upgrade the remaining libraries and Luxor itself to use Maven. - Gerald |

Hello, Over the next couple of weeks I plan to work out all the details for a Luxor premium support offering. The idea is to offer support contracts for Luxor. Once you've signed up for a support contract you will get a guaranteed response to your questions from a core Luxor developer within 24 hours. I've setup a new mailinglist over at Yahoo! that is only accessible to people holding a valid support contract. (See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/luxor-support ). Let me know what you think about the Luxor premium support offering and if you would be interested in signing up. - Gerald ------------------- Gerald Bauer XUL Alliance | http://xul.sourceforge.net United XAML | http://xaml.sourceforge.net |

You're right the DTD is out of sync (that is, not up-to-date). The DTD is now checked into CVS in case anyones wants to update it. Please, use the Relax NG compact syntax as the definite schema as all other formats are autogenerated. > Note that I have > defined few css style attributes for each element.I > only included those attributes which are used by the > *Def and *Peer classes. If you think that more > attributes should be supported, please let me know. It's a good start. Let's see how it works out. Keep up the great work. - Gerald PS: There's a small typo: Choise is spelled Choice. |

Hello all. I'd like to know your opinion on the current configuration for the code generation process. The file attached, describes the tags which the generated XulManager will recognize, and the attributes and css attributes the element supports. I hope the syntax is understandable, and there are some comments included. The configuration was based on the xul.dtd file, and the code of the corresponding *Def and *Peer source files. The dtd seems to be out of sync, because some elements like progressmeter are not defined. Note that I have defined few css style attributes for each element.I only included those attributes which are used by the *Def and *Peer classes. If you think that more attributes should be supported, please let me know. Also, you could test how the generated classes behave in producing the UI. Download the sources via CVS from the module luxor2 and after compiling run a modified version of the shell script attached. I'm looking forward for your opinion. Anakreon. |

Hello, allow me to forward Anakreon's comments on Vladimir Kvassov's Luxor XUL Titan Interview so they don't get lost. Anakreon writes: I agree with the remark about having two separate projects for swing and swt. One of the goals of the alternative architechture I have partly implemented, is to avoid this situation, and have different toolkits utilize a common code for common algorithms and problems. BSH: Perhaps BeanSell is slower then OGNL, I don't know. But there are some advantages of BeanShell which I think most users would be interested on. With BeanShell, ActionListeners and other classes can be implemented. BeanShell in this case is only used as the glue between UI and Java code so speed should not matter. However, we could utilize a library from IBM which provides a common interface for varius scripting languages for Java. IDE: An IDE is helpfull, but a difficult task to be implemented. I guess luxilla (which can reload the GUI and BeanShell script of the project when a file has changed) is a good tool for the moment. I'd like to know what luxor users think of this. Plugins for popular editors like JEdit and Eclipse could help in making the process of development in luxor easier and perhaps make luxor more popular. But the task of implementing the plugins, should require much effort. Any comments on Anakreon's comments? - Gerald PS: You can find Vladimir Kvassov's Luxor XUL Titan Interview online @ http://xul.sourceforge.net/post/2004/06/luxor_xul_titan_interview_vladimir_kvassov.html |

Hello, > On the home page, it says XUL is GPL > ... > On this sourceforge page, it says the Luxor license > is Apache 2 Sorry for the confusion. Luxor is dual licensed, that is, Luxor is available for free under the GNU GPL. If the GPL rules don't work for you, you're more than welcome to get a classic license. Note, that if you contribute you will get a "free" classic license that frees you from the GNU GPL share-alike clause. We (the core Luxor developers) canceled the Apache 2.0 license switch over because with no sponsor behind Luxor the free-for-all license would kill the project. So far all promises by companies using Luxor in production to get involved and contribute back were just empty promises. Even after offering to switch the license to an Apache 2.0 license they showed no interest and instead they continue to violate the GPL share-alike clause and enjoy a free ride abusing other people's goodwill. - Gerald |

On the home page, it says XUL is GPL http://luxor-xul.sourceforge.net/ On this sourceforge page, it says the Luxor license is Apache 2 http://sourceforge.net/projects/luxor-xul/ As you know, there's a world of difference between the 2 licenses, and having seen the first one a while ago, and not the second until today, I had to decide back then I couldn't use Luxor... I hope the site can be corrected before more people are mistakenly turned away... Ken Larson |

Hello Anakreon, Thanks for your comments on SwiXml. You might also wonna read the interview with SwiXml project lead Wolf Paulus online @ http://xul.sourceforge.net/post/2004/03/xul_titan_interview_wolf_paulus_of_swixml_and_theodore_fame.html > The second project needs carefull study since is > similar to luxor in it's > aproach and goal. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance yet to look at Sulu closely. However, I mailed Sulu project lead Son To and Son agreed to sign up for a XUL titan interview. I will post the first part of the interview shortly. > Oups. To late. I took it literaly and created such a > branch.
