Has there been any progress on having Lurker support generating RSS feeds
for Mailman archives?

As it appears, Lurker can generate an archive for a Mailman list in HTML
format; it could also be enhanced to update an RSS/Atom format XML file
which can then be read by an news reader.

Can you maybe explain what the purpose of this would be?
To list new messages or what?

.. and which new messages? one RSS/list?

Yes, to allow following a mailing list in an news reader.  One feed per
list.
