Put the following code in "SimpleDebug.lua" or any LUA file and try to step through the for loop.
for j = 0, 2, 1 do
for i = 0, 2, 1 do
print("This will crash LuaEdit when stepping through these loops.")
I was able to fix this issue by checking if the key was already added at the end of 'UpdateVariables' in LocalsDlg.cs.
