Hi, Here are some things you can try. A short disclaimer. All of this is relevant for RedHat. Your mileage may vary on different distributions. I am most familiar with KDM so I will recommend that you try kdm. In redhat, you set DESKTOP="KDE" in /etc/sysconfig/desktop and then restart X windows with /sbin/telinit 3 wait a minute /sbin/telinit 5 if you are already using kdm, you don't need to do that. next verify that kdm is running with: ps waux | grep kdm next check /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess there is a line that starts with an "*" that looks like * any host can get a login window make sure that line is not commented. Restart X if you need to uncomment it. Also check /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config there is a line that looks like #DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 Make sure that this line IS commented out. Restart X if necessary finally, make sure your workstation is trying to make an XDMCP connection to the right machine. in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf you should make sure the SERVER parameter is set to 192.168.0.254. Basically, the grey screen is usually caused by one of three things 1. you don't have a display manager running 2. your display manager is not allowing xdmcp connections 3. your workstation is trying to connect to the wrong server oh yeah, 4. Check and see if you have a firewall rule that is denying the XDMCP connections HTH, Derek Quoting Sheilafel Vida <cur...@ly...>: > We have this set-up where in eth0 is attached to LTSP and eth1 in the > internet.
