Dear list, I have released Linguistic Tree Constructor version 3.2.0. You can have your copy here: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html The release notes are below. Best wishes, Dr. Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen Scripture Systems ApS Denmark 3.2.0 ===== This is a compatibility release, adding compatibility mostly for recent versions of Mac OS X (10.8 and later), as well as Windows 8, 8.1, and 10. There is also one enhancement, detailed below. Compatibility enhancements include: - Upgrade to wxWidgets 3.0.X was completed. This means the application no longer crashes on Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) shortly after opening. - On the Mac, the official App bundle is sandboxed and given just enough entitlements to run, as well as digitally signed. This should make it easier to install the application. - The official Mac binaries now support Mac OS X 10.8 and later. - The official Windows binaries now support Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. One enhancement was made: - When a node A is a gap in another node B (i.e., A sits between the boundaries of B, but A is not a constituent in B), place A before B in the vertical tree. This is especially useful for postpositive conjunctions that sit between clauses, sentences, or paragraphs (such as occur in Greek). Before this version, the conjunction would get displayed after the clause inside which it appears. Now, it is displayed before it. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen |

Hello, Linguistic Tree Constructor version 3.1.0 has been released: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html The release notes are below. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen Release notes for 3.1.0 follow 3.1.0 ===== This is an enhancement release with one bugfixes. - The first enhancement is the addition of the ability to display tooltips on the phrase-level buttons and label checkboxes in the left part of the window. See the User's Guide for how to add these to your labels.txt and/or phrase_types.txt files. THIS ALSO MEANS THAT FILES SAVED WITH LTC 3.1.0 MAY NOT WORK CORRECTLY IN OLDER VERSIONS. Care has been taken not to modify the file format unless you use tooltips in either phrase_types.txt or labels.txt. However, IF YOU USE THE DEFAULT labels.txt or phrase_types.txt, YOUR FILE SAVED WITH LTC 3.1.0 WILL NOT WORK WITH PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF LTC. This is because these files now contain tooltips. - The syntax-node type "Relation" ("R") has been added to syntax_nodes.txt. - The syntax-node / phrase-type panel to the left has been given a scrollbar that appears if the window cannot contain the full list. This is useful if you resize the window and still want to use the full range of syntax nodes / phrase types. - The default size of the window has been made slightly taller to accommodate the new "Relation" syntax node. - The bugfix is that On Mac OS X, the .dmg file now works out of the box on Leopard (10.5). Before, Leopard could show a message saying that the .dmg image was corrupted. It was not, but Leopard complained anyway. |

Hello, Linguistic Tree Constructor version 3.0.4 has been released. http://ltc.sourceforge.net Binaries are provided for: - Windows (2000 and later). - Mac OS X (Universal binaries for 10.4 (Tiger) and later) - Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (i368) - Fedora 13 (i386) This is an enhancement release with three bugfixes. - The first bugfix is that, on Mac OS X, if the user is using a case-sensitive file-system, the Lib directory wouldn't be found. This has been fixed. - The second bugfix is that, on Mac OS X 10.6, the font dialog wouldn't appear when doing a .txt file, meaning you couldn't open a text file at all on Mac OS X 10.6. - The third bugfix is that, before, if you selected the top-level node ("Text") and tried to make a syntax node out of it, the program would crash. Now the program gives an error message instead and doesn't crash. - On Mac OS X, the .dmg image used to distribute LTC now has a link to /Applications. - In both the vertical tree and the horizontal tree, all Word-level boxes are centered. - In the horizontal tree, branch labels no longer show up above the node, but below the node. - In the horizontal tree, there is now a box around each nonterminal node, and branch labels show up below the node box, boxed themselves. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen |

Hello, Linguistic Tree Constructor version 3.0.3 has been released: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html Linguistic Tree Constructor is a free, libre, Open Source Software program for drawing linguistic syntax trees of text. Its main distinctive is that it assists you in data production: You can very quickly draw up a lot of syntax trees using LTC. Whereas other programs focus on showing pretty trees of single sentences for publication, LTC aims to speed up the data production process, e.g., when needing data for bootstrapping a parser. The main changes over 3.0.2 are: - Two obscure bugs have been fixed. - You can now, from within the program, visit the web page for subscribing to the mailing lists. Also, the Windows installer will optionally take you to the same page after the installer is done. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen |

It parsed in LTC itself, though, so this wasn't a problem unless you tried to use the *.ltcx file for other purposes. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen |

Hello, Linguistic Tree Constructor version 3.0.1 has been released. Linguistic Tree Constructor (LTC) is a free tool for linguists and educators who wish to produce syntax-tree analyses of text. Educators can share linguistic trees with their students, and have the students analyse text with LTC, thereby sharpening analysis skills. Linguists can use the tool to produce syntactically analyzed corpora. The tool interfaces with the Emdros linguistic search engine for searching such a corpus in syntactically interesting ways. LTC 3.0.1 is a bugfix release. It fixes several crash-related bugs. You can download LTC 3.0.1 via this URL: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen LTC maintainer |

Hello, I have released Linguistic Tree Constructor version 2.8.0: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html This is a release with both bugfixes and feature enhancements. Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Kirk E. Lowery for beta-testing this release intensively, and for providing numerous bug reports and suggestions for improvements, and for general moral support in my endeavors with LTC. - Added a new command: View --> Open Horizontal Tree, which opens a new window showing a horizontal tree of the currently selected node. This is only possible if exactly one node is selected. - The horizontal tree can draw itself not only to the clipboard, but also to a file. - Various crashes were fixed. - A bug was fixed whereby .gen files that were right-to-left did not have that fact preserved when saving as .LTC files. Now the fact is preserved. This also means that the file format is backwards incompatible, i.e., older versions can't read new .LTC files. - In right-to-left trees, the individual boxes are now flush-right in all interlinear lines. - In right-to-left trees, if there is only one line (possibly only one box) in the text associated with a node, it is drawn flush-left rather than (as previously) flush-right. - The three library files (phrase_types.txt, labels.txt, and syntax_nodes.txt) are now looked for in a user-controlled directory first, before falling back to the Program's own copies. This was done so as to be able to support user-written library files that don't get overwritten with each new installation. Thanks go to Kirk Lowery for suggesting this and many other changes. - The user can now save the file right after New'ing it. It used to be that one had to alter the tree somehow before being able to save it. Announcements: In the next release of LTC, the following will be REMOVED: - Support for the non-Unicode version of LTC. Only the Unicode version will continue. This, in particular, also means that starting from th e next major version, LTC will no longer be able to run on Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95, 98, or ME. - Support for reading the following file formats: - .ps2 - .gk2 - .thd - .pak - .ipa - .hdb - Support for *writing* .ltc files (they will be replaced by a new file format, most probably XML-based). *READING* old .ltc files will still be supported, but only if the file in question is a Unicode file. Enjoy! Ulrik Sandborg-Petersen |

List, I have released version 2.7.1 of my "Linguistic Tree Constructor" (LTC). http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html LTC is a free, Open Source, cross-platform program for drawing linguistic syntax-trees. It works on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Changes over 2.7.0 include: - The speed of interaction with the program was dramatically improved. For example, it is now not only possible -- but even quite tolerable -- to work with the book of Matthew in Greek. And a book like Ephesians in Greek is a snap to work with. - A few crashes were fixed. If anything is not working for you in LTC, please let me know what it is, and I will most likely try to fix it. Likewise, feel free to write with feature-requests. Enjoy! Ulrik Petersen |

Hello, I have released Linguistic Tree Constructor version 2.7.0: http://ltc.sourceforge.net News over 2.6.1 include: - The scroll-wheel now works on the tree. - A new editing-mode was added, in which the newly created node is automatically selected after creation. To turn on the new mode, go to the "Edit" menu and toggle the last menu item in the menu. - Collapsing/expanding a node now constitutes modifying the document, so that you can save it even if this is all you have done to the document. - The software was packaged for the Debian Linux operating system. As usual, binaries are available for Windows, Mac OS X (Universal), and Linux (.rpm -- and now .deb). Enjoy! Ulrik Petersen LTC maintainer |

Hello, I have released version 2.5.0 of Linguistic Tree Constructor (LTC). LTC can be downloaded from the homepage: http://ltc.sourceforge.net/download.html This is a feature-enhancement release. The following improvements over 2.0.0 were made: - User-definable node-levels are now supported. That means, you are not constrained to the pre-defined "Phrase", "Clause", "ClauseCluster", etc., but can define your own levels. - Most of the user-interface is now configurable, and will remain the same next time you open LTC. - You can configure the colors used for nearly every aspect of the display. Also, the colors will remain the same next time you open the program. - The keyboard shortcuts (accelerators) now work as advertised on Windows. (This is a bugfix.) - You can now dump a file to Emdros MQL. See http://emdros.org for more information on what Emdros is and can do for you. - Some new constraints on labels and syntax node names are now enforced. Old labels are silently converted to the new format. If you wish to define your own labels, please read the pertinent sections of the User's Guide first. - The Windows installer now installs for "All Users" rather than the "Current User". - The User's Guide was given an overhaul. Please read it again if you have read it before, especially the new sections on the new kinds of arbitrarily definable nodes. Mac OS X Universal binaries are now provided. Enjoy!
