this is a small bug; the reason is that the script for restarting
the daemon in lpr-ppd is called (at least in Debian)
It just needs a small correction in printtool; I have done the correction
in printtool.in myself, and uploaded to Debian

Installed on two Debian machines. Works perfectly, with remote printing.
One thing, though:
LPD restart does not work with printtool. You might want to investigate why
printtool can't do that.
