Okay, well, here's the developer.gnome.org line on
char* gnome_pixmap_file (const char *filename);
filename : pixmap filename
Returns : a newly allocated filename from the GNOMEDIR tree or
from the GNOME installation directory for the pixmap directory
($prefix/share/pixmaps), or NULL if the file does not exist.
All this does is translate "kitten.xpm" to
"/usr/share/pixmaps/gpr/kitten.xpm". We should be able to (at the
very least) #ifdef in a replacement function for this.
