#4 fix annoying not in the range 0 to xyz

A number of screens allow you to clear the numeric entry completely and it becomes replaced by a "?". This is good. But there are a couple of screens where the same operation elicits a modal screen stating that the number
should be from 1 to abc. You have to click OK and correct the number. But the modal screen can easily reoccur if you are not VERY careful. I like the "?" control much better.
