Should not be much of a problem, just remove checking the systemd
service. But Logwatch still seems to require journalctl in order to run.

So my question is how do I set up Logwatch without systemd or journalctl?

I'm surprised that logwatch requires journalctl to run. What os and how are you installing logwatch? What error are you getting?

    Artix Linux 6.6.3
Logwatch 7.8-3 (released 01/26/23) installed from the repos

    Error:

It seems that Arch linux has a modified version of logwatch in it's repos. Installing from source fixed it.

PS. I am on Artix, which is Arch without systemd :)
